London With Kids: The Family-Friendly Spots We Actually Loved
When we planned our London trip, I expected to spend most of our time checking off famous landmarks.
What surprised me most? Some of our favorite moments weren’t the big attractions at all.
After several days exploring London with our 7- and 9-year-olds, these are the family-friendly spots we genuinely loved and would recommend to anyone visiting London with kids.
1. Princess Diana Memorial Playground
If you’re traveling with younger kids, don’t skip this.
Located in Kensington Gardens, this playground is inspired by Peter Pan and features a giant pirate ship, sensory play areas, teepees, and plenty of space for kids to burn off energy after sightseeing. It’s one of London’s most famous playgrounds for a reason.
Mom Tip: Pair it with a walk through Kensington Gardens and a visit to Kensington Palace.
2. Covent Garden
This became one of our favorite areas in London.
There’s always something happening—street performers, musicians, entertainers, shops, and plenty of places to grab food.
Our girls loved stopping to watch the performers while we enjoyed a slower-paced afternoon.
3. The Natural History Museum
Even if your kids aren’t “museum kids,” put this on your list.
The dinosaur exhibits alone were worth the visit.
Bonus: Admission is free.
4. The Science Museum
Another free London attraction that was a huge hit.
The hands-on exhibits made this one especially fun for kids, and it’s easy to combine with the Natural History Museum since they’re located near each other.
5. St. James’s Park
One of the easiest ways to slow down during a busy London itinerary.
We grabbed snacks, watched the ducks and pelicans, and enjoyed a break from the crowds before heading toward Buckingham Palace.
6. Hamleys Toy Store
Seven floors of toys.
Need I say more?
Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s worth visiting just to watch the demonstrations and experience the energy inside.
The Biggest Surprise? London Pubs
Before our trip, we assumed pubs were mostly for drinking.
Turns out, many London pubs are incredibly family-friendly during the day and early evening, especially those that serve food. Many offer children’s menus, family dining areas, gardens, and a welcoming atmosphere for families.
In fact, some of our favorite meals in London happened at pubs.

Casual atmosphere
Great food for adults and kids
No one expected kids to sit perfectly still
Fish and chips, pies, Sunday roasts, burgers—we found ourselves choosing pubs again and again.
Family-Friendly Pubs to Consider
The Leinster Arms (Bayswater)
A welcoming family dining pub near Hyde Park with a dedicated kids menu and relaxed atmosphere.
The Bridge Tap (Southwark)
Close to Borough Market and family-friendly attractions, with kids menus and activity packs for children.
The Red Lion (Barnes)
A favorite among local families with plenty of space indoors and outdoors.
Big Penny Social
One of London’s most family-focused pub spaces with events and activities designed for families.
BrewDog Waterloo
This one might be the most kid-friendly pub we’ve ever heard of. It features bowling, a giant indoor slide, family events, and even an ice cream van.
One thing to know: Many London pubs welcome children during the day but may have evening restrictions, often around 7–8 PM, so always check before visiting.
Final Thoughts
If you’re planning a London trip with kids, don’t stress about finding “kid-friendly” restaurants or building an itinerary around children’s attractions.
London is surprisingly easy with kids.
Mix a few iconic sights with playgrounds, parks, museums, and a couple of pub lunches, and you’ll quickly understand why London has become one of our favorite family destinations in Europe.
